Comprehensive Job Training and Careers Program
IMAS offers a Comprehensive Job Training and Careers Program to meet Iraqi refugees’ various needs for employment services, including assistance with resumes, cover letters, filling out applications, preparing for interviews, navigating institutional processes, referrals to partner organizations, and advising on educational opportunities, the job search process, and the culture of American workplaces.
Based on clients’ backgrounds, qualifications, interests, and skills – especially computer skills and level of English proficiency – IMAS will assist clients with obtaining:
Professional jobs وظائف محترفه: Many IMAS clients have highly professional backgrounds and deep experience in their fields. However, research indicates that the job search process often takes 6-9 months for American professionals, and networking is a major component of finding a new job - and Iraqi refugees face additional difficulties. Therefore, while IMAS both assists clients in their professional job search and refers them to our partner organization Upwardly Global, we encourage realistic expectations and timelines, and we assist in finding transitional jobs in the meantime.
Survival/transitional jobs وظائف أنتقاليه : These jobs require lower levels of English and technical proficiency and can be found more quickly than professional jobs. They often pay less, but provide valuable opportunities to build a resume and work history in the U.S. and establish references.
Vocational training تدريب مهني: IMAS helps Iraqi immigrants and refugees work toward a number of vocations, including traditional trades as well as fields such as tech support that are in high demand.
For example, IMAS holds a CompTIA A+ course, taught by the Computer Training Institute of Chicago (CTIC), which provides training and instruction towards a certificate in IT support. The vocational training takes 3 months, 2 days each week, and includes actual hands-on computer hardware training.
For more information, contact Larry Pande, Executive Director, at [email protected].
The Comprehensive Job Training and Careers Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (DHS)’s Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
